Here is are examples of the numerous scam replies I receive as I send out my cover letter and resume in response to Craig’s List advertisements for Administrative Assitant:

I’m looking for someone that can be trusted and reliable to work very well and with good understanding.

This position is home-based and flexible, working with me is basically about instructions and following them, my only fear is that I may come at you impromptu sometimes, so I need someone who can be able to meet up with my irregular timings. Your duties will include:
Collecting Local Payments
When a buyer in the US decides to purchase an item through an online auction from our sellers he has the following payment options: pay pal,international wire transfer, international check, local certified check or local wire transfer. The quickest option of these is local wire transferring. Local wire transfers and certified checks are the options that the sales support representative will provide to the clients.

Managing Data
Along with the payments received from buyers you will receive details for the sales.
The details will include items sold, price, and buyer’s information. You are to file and maintain these purchasing records and transactions.

Forwarding of the Payments
Once you receive & process each payment, you earn 10% of the amount received and forwarding the rest to the seller or representative, whose information will be provided prior each transaction. It is crucial to complete forwarding of the payments in a time efficient manner.

Correspondence

    I’ve been scammed by two different people through Craigslist this month. No, I did not fall for it and lose thousands of dollars, because once I got the phony checks and did my research on the internet, I knew the jig was up. I got scammed as a hired “babysitter” for a guy who would be temporarily staying in my area for a month for a job away from his UK home. The other one was for a personal assistant position by a man named “Fenstin Martreon.” (if that’s even his name). It’s funny (but not really) because some of the paragraphs in the posts are the EXACT wording from the emails I received from these heartless scam artists. I am a struggling college student and I am married. This could have ruined my life if I fell for it! I wish the FBI could attack these scammers with full force!

      That same man fenstin martreon sent me an email about that same personal assistant job and everything in that paragraph was in the email 2 smh scammers need 2 be banned frm craigslist dey need 2 upgrade u real coporate business and retail stores and all they need to keep scammers away

      I just got the Ape computer scam. . . the last email said that they are going to send a check via UPS. . . after reading all of this im obviously not going to cash it but was there something you did to stop them from harrassing you? Did they keep sending stuff to your house?

      Detailed Job Description
      The primary goal is to provide local customer support to our clients within North America. This includes providing convenient payment options and informing them of shipping and the terms of sale.
      You will be assisting our clients within North America, the assistance to be provided will include: payment collections and customer service via email.

      Your duties will include:
      – Collecting Local Payments
      When a buyer in the US decides to purchase an item through an online auction from our sellers he has the following payment options: pay pal, international wire transfer, international check, local certified check or local wire transfer. The quickest option of these is local wire transferring. Local wire transfers and certified checks are the options that the sales support representative will provide to the clients.

      – Managing Data
      Along with the payments received from buyers you will receive details for the sales.
      The details will include items sold, price, and buyer’s information. You are to file and maintain these purchasing records and transactions.

      – Forwarding of the Payments
      Once you receive & process each payment, you earn 10% of the amount received and forwarding the rest to the seller or representative, whose information will be provided prior each transaction. It is crucial to complete forwarding of the payments in a time efficient manner.

      – Correspondence
      You will submit a brief reports, weekly reports, and monthly reports. Weekly and monthly reports are to be done in Excel format and are to summarize all transactions completed within the week, or month.

For the first three weeks, you will simply receive all of the transferring details, and payments, along with step by step guidance from your supervisor. You will be forwarding the received payments through wire service.
      -Salary
      During the trial period, you will be paid 1,800USD per month while working on average 3hours per day, Monday-Friday, plus 10% commission from every payment received and forwarded. After the trial period your base pay salary will go up to 2,400USD per month, plus 10% commission.

      -Taxes

      Along with everyone else, I for some reason googled them and the first link that came up was ‘Ape Computer Inc. Scam’. Good thing I saw this before I submitted my information. I probably wouldn’t have even thought twice about it!

    They are all the same: they all give some excuse as to why they can’t interview you before hiring or speak with you on the phone (because they are most likely working from outside the country and barely know English), they all want you to use money gram/money order, many want you to donate through “clients” to orphanages, they all harass you (seriously, they threatened me with the FBI if I didn’t cash the check within 48 hours), they have HORRIBLE grammar, and they offer you money before you even start working.

    This is a devastating and all too common scam. People: if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is!!!!!

    i saw a personal assistant job on craigslist, it looked good so i emailed him and a Fenstin Martreon replied with the same exact things that are listed above. For some reason i decided to google the name before i responded with any information. I am glad i did or else he could have done the same too me or stolen my identity. Thanks! hopefully someone can prevent him from continuing to do this so that no one can fall for it

    just got my response from Fenstin Martreon as well…word for word the same as the one posted here. i thought it was a little fishy that his grammar and punctuation were so terrible when they weren’t in the original ad, and that he was offering cashier’s check/ money order. i have gotten scam emails before, actually quite often when i post under “childcare.”

    Hi! Thanks for posting all of this information! I just got the email from Ape Computers…I must say this one is really slick! There is actually a Apt Computers based in the UK so I almost thought it was ligitimate but I am not stupid. I sent them a email requesting more information about their company including a address and phone number and a person of contact. If they actyally have the balls to respond with one I will definetly be calling them with a ear full to say….but lets face it…they won’t! I think this stuff is so cruel to do to the thousands of unemployed Americans. I have been unemployed since Jan. and let me tell you…this is a way to kill my spirit.

    I emailed a resume just yesterday or the day before that. It seemed awfully brief in the listing (no city location next to the “File Clerk label).

    A little while ago, while checking my email, I noticed his reply…..I thought the whole thing a little strange – the job sounded more like 25% filing on the computer, and 75% accounts receivable (receiving all the “collection” payments)…..and I’m NOT an accounting person at all (in other words, I was wondering why he had the job listed as File Clerk when it entails mostly Accounting stuff)..

    Something about it made me wary (I have VERY good instincts, which I pay attention to), so instead I emailed him the question of where the company is located (‘even if a home office”, which many internet company’s are these days).

    Then, as I sat looking over his emal again (and in particular, the personal info he was requesting), it occurred to me that he’d already almost all of it anyway on the resumes emailed to him. So I emailed him again, noting that….and asking him how applicant’s were supposed to sign the acknowledgement (I HAVE heard of ways one CAN sign something on computer, but it’s rather complicated). ANYWAY, I wasn’t going to sign ANYTHING until I was satisfied that this was okay.

    HOWEVER, something comtinued to not feel right, so I web-searched that “Godwin Newton, Whitefield, UK” “Forwarded to:” line he had included, and found a WHOLE PAGE of scam complaints.

    Needless to say, I promptly emailed him back – telling him “no thanks”, and that he had a scam going.

    Yep, every one of the people complaining about his scam had typed out THEIR version – all were the same format, only one or two slight changes in what he requested of the applicant’s personal info.

      To ‘confused’ I would be leery of giving out name, address and phone numbers to complete strangers. If they aren’t stealing your personal information, what if they were creeps just looking to get the address of single women or just women in particular? What if they got your address, cased your comings and goings and waited for the right time to: rob you, rape you, or anything else….????? Please be careful in your job search. People realize how desperate others are to find work and are preying on them. I personally would never respond to an email like any of these asking for information. I don’t click on links either to give info. I recently replied to an ad for an apartment and a guy named Mark Savon emailed me back asking to go to a link and fill out a credit report….NEVER.

      I am a new mother/wife and I answered 1 of these ads, looking for a personal assistant, no problem. I received an fedex package, with 2 money orders, and said 1 was for my pay and the other to be cashed at a local check cashing place and wired to someone…..Well they were US Postal Money Orders, so me not knowing that this is a scam, went to the post office, and they told me they were counterfeit documents….then it all clicked, that they wanted me to send money cashing these “fake” checks… I wrote an right to the point email to my “employer” to say that I did not do my job, b/c the money orders got confiscated due to being counterfeit….I did not hear from them again…wished I didn’t get scammed…. but I guess I learned and hope like previous posting that I don’t get harassed.     Just got one too guys! I submitted my resume to an admin assistant/personal assistant for a lawyer (female too) and got a reply from a guy who supposedly owns an art gallery. Funny how he’s looking in the us for employees, yet his gallery is in Australia.

    Good thing I went looking and immediately found this site prior to responding to him. Thanks to everyone who posted their findings! Sorry to all of those who were scammed… Shame how people try and take advantage of others these days.

      Well, don’t worry Bob. What is done is done. Who knows what information or benefit they derive from coaxing or tricking people to answer the questions for a credit score. No legitimate Company will ask you to do such things in a HELP WANTED ad. They will simply ask you to forward a resume and perhaps a cover letter via email (or perhaps sometimes via FAX.) One should avoid clicking any unknown links in such Craigslist advertisements.
